(Touching grass isn’t just a TikTok trend—it’s nervous system magic.)
Somewhere along the way, many of us became really good at leaving our bodies. We go numb, stay busy, scroll, and perform. But healing—real, sustainable, heart-deep healing—doesn’t happen out there. It happens here.
In the body. In the breath. In the present moment.
Grounding isn’t just for yogis or barefoot nature lovers. It’s for the anxious mama, the burnt-out leader, the woman who’s been holding her breath for the last decade.
It’s for you, my friend.
And I promise: you don’t have to escape your body to survive anymore. You get to come home to it.
When trauma happens, our nervous systems go into survival mode. Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.
But what happens when the danger is over… and your body never got the memo?
That’s where grounding comes in.
Grounding tells your body, “You’re safe now. You can stay.”
It gently brings you out of the past and into the present.
Not spiritually bypassing pain—but giving it space to breathe, release, and recalibrate.
Stand barefoot in your yard. Place your hand on a tree.
Say aloud: “God made this. And He made me.”
That’s not just poetic—it’s regulation. Skin-to-earth contact reduces cortisol and brings your nervous system out of fight-or-flight.
Name:
5 things you see
4 things you can touch
3 things you hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
Simple. Quick. Powerful. It anchors you right here, right now.
Ice cube. Metal spoon. A cool washcloth to the neck.
This activates your vagus nerve, snaps you out of spiraling, and tells your body: You’re okay.
Try this:
“Hey love, I see you. I know you’re trying to protect me. But we’re safe now. You can soften.”
Watch what happens when you treat your body like it belongs to God—because it does.
This tells your body: “This breath is mine. This moment is mine.”
Try box breathing: Inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4.
Do it 3 times. Watch how fast peace finds you.
Each step becomes a prayer.
Say: “Everywhere I go, peace follows.”
It’s prophetic. It’s grounding. It’s powerful.
Keep a small stone, cross, crystal, or anointed cloth in your pocket.
Every time you touch it, say: “I am here. And God is here with me.”
Lord, I’ve been living from the neck up—disconnected, disoriented, disembodied.
But I want to come home.
Home to the temple You designed.
Home to the breath You gave me.
Home to the place where peace meets presence.
Help me feel safe in my own skin again.
Not because the world is perfect—but because You are with me in it. Amen.
Your body isn’t the enemy or a mistake. It’s not too much (and neither are you BTW). It’s a sanctuary, a beautiful, breathing reflection of God’s creativity.
So today, let’s honor it. Let’s return to it. Let’s ground ourselves in the truth that you get to stand, rooted, whole, right here.
